lol
WOW, I haven’t updated in forever lol. This won’t be long, but just a little update on what I’ve been up to recently, concerning my thesis:
☃ Consulting designers and gathering content. Not everyone has replied yet and I don’t know if I should be aggressive about it or what (probably a bad idea to be).
☃ Oh, and I actually have a new book design. I submitted the one I posted here last October, but I changed that sort of. And then I changed it again because I’m indecisive, and no, my adviser has not seen it yet lol.
☃ I’ve contacted the scale model people already but they haven’t told me yet how much my model would cost. Hopefully not so much.
☃ Also got two people to help me out with making patterns. One’s a fashion design student and the other’s a terrific, sort of all-around artist.
☃ I’ve also been making patterns of my own. Trying to do at least ONE a day and I think I’m sort of succeeding. Sort of. I’m enjoying this a lot, obviously, and if you’d ask me again this is the only part of my thesis I would actually do. But don’t say that out loud.
Ok, whatever, just updating for the sake of updating. Can totally do this thesis lah! /positive-thinking

Page layout studies
Ok, so here are some page layout studies I made:

(That huge bar thing… is supposed to be the wall. It was set to transparent but it showed up lol.)

Don’t mind the text, it’s all either wrong or just dummy text lol. Anyway, kind of looks strange with space fillers/boxes instead of real room layouts! The first one totally looks like a grade school test sheet… “Make a comic strip about your thoughts on Bambi in the boxes provided below” lol. Actually, I’ve made some of the rooms already… it’s just that Sweet Home 3D takes HOURS to export high quality photos of the rooms. I’m not kidding, you can go eat lunch, take a bath, nap a bit, then you check up on the darn thing and it’s not even at 50%. And that’s multiple angles okay, so you can only imagine. :S If I can’t finish because of the exporting then I’ll probably have to settle with lower quality images for now. /cries
Anyway, this was just totally to distract myself from that 20-page paper. Got to get back on that now.

ORAYT.
So let’s pretend it hasn’t been almost 2 months since my last update. :S Well now I’m done with both Theo and Philo, and whether or not I totally bombed both those subjects, my thesis has got to MOVE. And there’s still Type and History to deal with FMYLIFE.
Anyway, here’s how things have been going along:
1. I changed my logo a little (changed the font, edited some of the lines), so here it is now (not like I ever got to upload the old one lol):
2. I’ve been working on some room layouts on mydeco.com, but the layouts are all in private lol. I also have this program on my computer called Sweet Home 3D and I don’t know, I just might redo my layouts there and use that one instead. Still undecided!
3. I made a book cover study, and it is so ridiculously me (I’m obviously a total nerd for patterns). I don’t know whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing.
And how odd that I quote there, “Sleep is for the weak” but I’m someone who badly loves sleeping and can’t go on days without it lol.
There’s still a MOUNTAIN of work to do (+ those non-thesis related subjects, ugh) for the remaining days, but I’ll manage. I HAVE TO. Seriously. So for the sake of keeping in mind what’s there to do for that 20-25% required of me this sem, here’s a list:
☂ Logo and brand identity
☂ 1-2 rooms per dorm room setup (3-6 overall) – floor plan, 3D in different angles
☂ Page sample(s) for room layouts + snippets
☂ Page sample(s) for furniture suggestions
☂ Page sample(s) for commentaries
☂ Book cover and general book layout
So all those + the 20-page paper. In less than a week. JESUS HELP ME.

It’s an update!
Sort of random: I was thinking, it would be a total nightmare to have nothing in time for the exhibit. Knowing myself, I’d probably pretend I died or that I have brain cancer just to get out of the situation. But no, really, this bothers me a lot and I wonder what other people would do…
Anyway, I have to admit that after Wednesday’s presentation, I wanted out. I didn’t want my topic anymore because I didn’t see the whole point in it if I’m really just going to design this book about rearranging dorm furniture that’s not even half as exciting as a slow-paced potluck dinner with my relatives. Pretty much a disaster waiting to happen. The panelists were right, I appreciate all the comments they made as well as Sir Or’s, and I wanted to just, I don’t know, roll around in dirt for missing out all of that just because I crammed and left half of my brain at home. To be totally honest, I want a new topic, but I realized earlier today that if I would ever have to make another freaking mind map, I am going to scream.
So I may just have to rebrand the whole thing. I don’t even know if I’m keeping the name Lazyspaces, which I’m kind of attached to since it’s so me and laidback haha. Anyway, I think the problem with Lazyspaces was that, apart from the name, it was not my style at all. I branded Lazyspaces as this hodgepodge of srsbiz architecture shenanigans and… Hapepy-esque pastel colors. And I’m only realizing now how disastrous that sounds together, ew.
So I’m just going to go about with my business of vomiting the randomness of kiddie illustrations.

Ngl, I want a Mario-themed wall, with lots of mushrooms and pipes and Yoshi.

Look at those babushka dolls!

That. crab. thing. Whatever that is, I want it.
Will update again soon!

Sniffing around for more sources
So to set things straight on how I’m angling my thesis:
Topic: Studies/work-friendly study bedroom
Goal: Propose a study bedroom layout/design that would encourage student efficiency and productivity
Output(s):
(1) Blueprint(s) of proposed room layouts – including where to situate different equipments and pieces of furniture, etc.
(2) small model sample(s) of the room – basically would be the blueprint laid out with the actual designs in mini-3d
(3) a book or catalogue with suggested room layouts and designs – including probable layout blueprints or sketches, patterns, color palettes, furniture, etc.
(4) actual room representation – still to be decided how large or small-scale this output would be (yes, I am totally nuts with this one)
1. Positioning – encourage students to work better by suggesting work-friendly room layouts and designs
2. Market – students; teens to 20s (late high school to college); plus those who work in dorms sabog, dormers kasi
3. Culture – people who take studies seriously or at least want to; people who want to work better and be more productive
4. Promise – provide market with work-friendly room layouts and aesthetically appealing designs that will help and encourage them to work better; not only nice to look at but also functional
5. Key goals – help students work more efficiently; encourage them to fix and organize their rooms and make them look nicer
So tomorrow I’ll be borrowing books from the library again. Hopefully I can visit other libraries before the week ends, too. AYOKO NA POWHZ. I just wish I didn’t have all these other subjects to deal with anymore (hello Midterms season).
And to give myself a moment to panic: SHIT KAYA KO NA BA TALAGA MAG-THESIS, N/N?!
♥ Hapepy
MUST RESUME
…after I finish Typography class and Philo demands. WHEN WILL I EVER LEARN TO MANAGE MY TIME PROPERLY.
But once I shove the other subjects away (at least, for now), I promise I’ll set my thesis straight, maybe angle it more appropriately like my thesis adviser had suggested, and um, revise that goddamn paper (which is stuck at like, 8 or 9 pages or something, and I have no idea how it’s going to reach 30)!
Btw I didn’t change my thesis topic… well, not yet. Hopefully never?
Anyway, updates to come. What joy!
♥ Hapepy
P.S. See, I almost forgot I had a thesis blog for a second there. Jesus, why so distracted!
Whut
So I… MIGHT change my topic again. Apparently my indecisiveness is going rampant and I am all over the place. I would kick me right now, seriously.
I did accomplish borrowing books from the library today though. I had no clue how to borrow books AT ALL. Didn’t even know I could borrow up to 20 in one go haha.
♥ Hapepy
Progress!
Because I’d really like to think I’m making some haha.
As of yesterday, July 22, I… ACTUALLY HAVE A THESIS TOPIC! I’ll be working on room designs/layouts that will cater to the needs of my chosen market. Right now I’m leaning towards students, since I’m a student and I figured it’ll be easier to do it that way!
I admit I’ve never really gotten that ~THIS IS IT~ moment I’ve been hoping for (I literally PRAYED that God would take a giant dump on my face in the form of a thesis topic, but NO), but um, my prof says I lack interests so I’m not really going to complain! I kind of like the topic I ended up with anyway. It’s going to be challenging, but the heck would anyone allow me to just design pillowcase patterns the whole year fml. It still worries me though, if I might suddenly change my mind and will have to have a do-over. I won’t be surprised.
That aside, it’s funny that I apparently don’t have a lot of interests, or so it turns out, since I’ve always thought myself to be someone who’s so ENGAGED with interests and fandoms and whatnot haha.
On that proposal due on Wednesday, well. I’m late in the game and I HAVE NO BOOKS, SOURCES, WHATSOEVER. Yet. But I will go crazy in the library tomorrow. I MUST, or I’ll get stressed out of my wits again.

HAPEPY Works (portfolio as of July 2010)
My 15 topics (edited)
My shameful 15. Edited because I wanted to ~document~ what ever happened to each “idea” haha.
1. Map on all the McDonald’s/Jollibee branches around the metro – WTF do I really want to do this, N/N?
2. Quick need-to-know facts about the Philippines and Philippine culture – for interested tourists to avoid miscommunication, etc. – This would’ve been too simple? Idk, I never pitched this one.
3. Antipolo travel guide book – Because a lot of people think we’re hours away from the city when we’re not! – LOL FOREVER.
4. Use of classic family sitcoms to address family situations of today (infographics? book?) – like proper parenting, morals and values of children, etc. – This was so odd and out of the blue, but part of me wants to do something on family sitcoms haha. I love family sitcoms.
5. Task cards for socially anxious teens – baby thesis topic, comes with a journal – Fail bb thesis topic, needless to say!
6. Outdoor game for children who spend tragically long hours with their PSPs – DNW.
7. Children’s illustrated textbooks – Because textbooks nowadays are either boring or have common illustrations – Not for me daw!
8. Parents’ guide for the Fine Arts curriculum(s) – LMAO.
9. Bed sets for the poor – LOL – OH GOD.
10. Fabric (furoshiki-ish) as substitute for wrapping paper – to lessen garbage (especially because wrapping paper is useless trash) – Too easy daw, and people could use newspapers (personally I think that would look fug haha).
11. Use of patterns to address primary environmental concerns in the Philippines – can be printed on everyday things like totes and other stuff – Yup, this one too, madali masyado (bakit ba, I want the easy way out haha). More personal project ish daw than a legit thesis.
12. Coloring books/sets for poor children – Can you tell I was desperate?
13. Illustrated Philippine mythology books – I’ve seen some other ideas like this one.
14. Redesign the Noli-Fili – LOL – No redesigning allowed!
15. All you need to know guide book about personality disorders – …Why am I so interested in disorders anyway, I must be a nutjob?
